As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, we all recognize that fall is upon us. The pool is closed and the swing set sits idle as the kids are back in school as they continue their studies. With this change we all realize that our season is winding down here at the Powder House Lodge and Restaurant as well. This year, our final day of operations will be Saturday October 10, 2015.
We are lucky to have an extremely hard working and talented staff, and the end of the season always brings a mixed bag of feelings and emotions for all of us. We all work a large number of hours over the summer, and anybody who has ever worked in a restaurant will tell you that your co-workers truly do become your best friends and your family. So on one hand you are breaking ties with these people that you have worked with, and sometimes lived with, for the last 6 months, as they return home, move on to their winter positions, or return back to school. On the other hand we all get a little bit of downtime and, maybe if we’re lucky, we actually get to go on a vacation ourselves after seeing all of the memories our guests have created on theirs. We get to spend time with our families and try to go back to a life of somewhat normalcy, a life that is not filled with work dreams, dreams that, sometimes, make you wake up sweating because you have been in the “weeds” all night and you just can’t seem to catch and break and get caught up. Restaurant people, you know what I’m talking about. We have all had them, if not, then you haven’t been in the industry long enough.
So it truly is bittersweet time for us all. However, no matter what we all say, we are all ready to come back and start up again, after just a few weeks of downtime, it seems we all get that itch and we are just ready to be back and start working.
So, while our closing date has been set, we haven’t reached it yet. We are all anxiously awaiting you all to come and join us one more time, okay maybe two or three more times before we call an end to the 2015 season, and experience our delicious menu and home-made desserts.
So while we are winding down for the season, and getting ready to close, we just want to remind you that there is plenty to still see and do throughout the area and the Black Hills. To help you plan your fall trip and let you know what is going on please find just a small sampling of the events occurring in October in the Hills.
