The annual Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ brings hundreds of thousands of bikers to the beautiful Black Hills to celebrate, rock out at concerts, and ride the twists and turns of Western South Dakota. The Hills offer a unique riding experience rivaled by few other areas in the country and bikers flock yearly to take part in the unique rides and outrageous events that surround the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™. Each year new concerts play and new Sturgis events are added to the long list of things to do and this year is no different. From the basic to the most outrageous, these are just a few of the new events added to the lineup this year at the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™.
Ride With a Local – As bikers flock to the Black Hills, there are many newcomers who come out to see what all of the hype is about and experience the phenomenon of thousands of bikers all in one place. This year, the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ wants to make it even easier for the first-timers to enjoy the rally by introducing Ride with a Local. On Friday, August 4th and Wednesday, August 9th, bikers are welcome to bring their bike and ride along with a local who has been in the Black Hills for years and knows the best rides, the best places to eat, and the best places to grab a drink. This unique Sturgis event is free, but is limited to 25 riders at each event. Itineraries and maps will be provided for riders and they should plan for five hours, including rest breaks and lunch. Those interested are asked to meet at the VIP Hospitality Village at 1544 Lazelle Street in Sturgis at 9 a.m. on August 4th and August 9th.
Legendary Sturgis 5K – One of the most unique Sturgis events added this year is the Legendary Sturgis 5K. Join others as they walk/jog/run from Sturgis Brown High School to the VIP Hospitality Village on Lazelle Street during this new Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ event. The course will go straight down the middle of Legendary Main Street. The fun starts at 7 a.m. and costs only $20 ($25 on day of race) and includes a t-shirt and collector’s challenge coin. This unique Sturgis event is one to remember.
Discovery Ride – The Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ isn’t the rally without some great twisting and turning rides through the Black Hills. One of this year’s new Sturgis events is the Discovery Ride, inviting riders to ride alongside their favorite Discovery Channel talent including the Diesel Brothers and the Street Outlaws. This three hour ride will take you through some of the most picturesque areas in the Black Hills. Other scheduled talent includes Farmtruck, AZN, Daddy Dave, Heavy D, The Muscle, and Red Beard. The ride takes off on August 9th and is $77.
This year’s Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ features a wide range of Sturgis events, all within a short drive of the Powder House Lodge.
