With the changing of the leaves and the cooler air making its way through the hills, it’s safe to say that autumn has officially settled upon our region. Fall is a beautiful time in the Black Hills and it is also an exciting time filled with plenty of festive and spooktacular activities for all to enjoy!
Each Saturday in October Old Macdonald’s Farm will be hosting its annual Fall Festival Days. This festive event is fun for all ages and your paid admission is good for each Saturday through the month of October. In addition to the petting zoo, kids of all ages can enjoy pony rides, hay rides, face painting, pumpkin painting, and more. Old Macdonald’s Farm is located just a few miles down the road from the Powder House Lodge on the way to Rapid City.
If you prefer spooky and scary to cute and cuddly, then be sure to mark your calendar for the annual Haunting of Keystone! Wander the halls of Keystone’s 115 year old schoolhouse, enter the depths of an abandoned gold mine, or trek deep into a haunted forest for a fright-filled night of fun! The haunting begins on Friday, October 17th, for more information visit www.hauntedkeystone.com if you dare!
Feeling adventurous this fall? Then make your reservations for the 17th annual Halloween Night Hike in Custer State Park! This family-friendly hike will take you on a 1.5 mile guided trek along a path lit by jack-o-lanterns beginning at the Peter Norbeck Visitor Center and ending at the Game Lodge Campground. This hike is great way to experience the sights and sounds of Custer State Park at night while also learning more about the natural history of this region along the way.
Although this only a small list of some of the great things going on around the region, we hope that you are able to get out and enjoy some of the great seasonal attractions and activities that the Black Hills have to offer this time of year. As we say goodbye to summer and begin preparing for the end of our season here at the Powder House Lodge & Restaurant, we would like to thank all of our friends, families, neighbors, and guests that have helped us have another wonderful season!
